One tap.
Perfect timing.

The whole rulebook

Everything you need to know about GapTap fits in one table — which is rather the point.

What you do What happens
Tap anywhere A ball fires from the funnel toward the ring in the middle of the screen
Thread the gap The ball sticks to the inner ring, your score goes up by one, the colour shifts and the phone taps back
Clip the edge Hit the outer ring instead and the run ends — the camera shakes and the game-over screen springs in
Keep scoring The ring speeds up by 2% every time you score, and has a 50/50 chance of reversing direction
Land a red ball Open Fire. The outer ring vanishes for five seconds, so nothing can end your run — fire as fast as you can while the countdown lasts
Land a blue ball These only appear once the ring is spinning dangerously fast. Hitting one winds the speed back down and buys you some breathing room

Minimal on the surface

No levels, no currencies, no upgrade tree. Just a score, a ring that keeps getting faster, and the nagging feeling you can do better.

One tap is the whole game

No swipes, no buttons, no virtual stick. Anywhere on the screen fires the next ball, which makes it equally playable one-handed on a bus or two-handed on the sofa.

Difficulty that follows you up

Every successful shot makes the ring spin 2% faster, and there is a coin-flip chance it reverses direction on you. There is no difficulty setting because your score is the difficulty setting.

Two balls that change everything

A red ball drops into the funnel every so often — land it and the outer ring disappears for five seconds of Open Fire, where you simply cannot lose. A blue ball shows up only when the ring is spinning dangerously fast, and hitting one winds the speed back down.

Bauhaus lines, neon glow

Clean geometry and a restricted palette, rendered as glossy 3D spheres and neon-tube rings over a soft spotlight backdrop. Nothing on screen is there to distract you.

A global scoreboard

Pick a nickname and your best run joins a worldwide board where you can see the top scores and your own rank. It runs on iCloud, so there is still no account to create.

One more chance

Ended a promising run early? Watch a short ad and pick up where you left off. The board is cleared of any leftover ball first, so you never get an instant unfair game over.

Feels like something

A crisp haptic on every score, a heavier one when you lose, a camera shake to sell the miss, and a score that rolls up rather than snapping. Small touches, and they are most of the game.

iPhone and iPad

The same game on both, built with SpriteKit so it stays smooth. It runs back to iOS 15.6, so older devices are not left out.

Nothing to sign up for

Your high score lives on your device. The only thing that leaves it is the score you choose to put on the board — under whatever nickname you like.

Good to know

  • The game is free and shows a banner ad. The "One More Chance" continue is an optional rewarded ad — you are never required to watch one.
  • The global scoreboard needs you to be signed in to iCloud on the device. Your high score still works without it, it just stays local.
  • Advertising is handled by Google AdMob; the privacy policy covers what that involves, including advertising identifiers.
  • The interface is English only.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play GapTap?

Tap anywhere on the screen to fire a ball from the funnel at the top toward the ring in the middle. The ring has a gap in it and keeps rotating, so your job is to time the tap for the moment the gap lines up. Hit the inner ring and the ball sticks and you score; hit the outer edge and the run is over.

Does the game get harder?

Continuously. Each time you score, the ring spins 2% faster than it did before, and there is a 50% chance it flips direction at the same moment. There are no levels and no difficulty setting — how hard the game is depends entirely on how well you are doing.

Is there a leaderboard?

Yes. Choose a nickname and your best run is submitted to a global scoreboard where you can see the top scores and where you sit among them. It is built on iCloud, so it uses the Apple Account already on your device rather than a separate login.

Do I need an account to play?

No. The game itself needs nothing at all — your high score is stored on your device. The only optional part is the global scoreboard, which needs iCloud to be signed in so it can tell one player from another.

What do the red and blue balls do?

A red ball appears in the funnel every twenty to thirty balls. Land it in the ring and Open Fire starts: the outer ring disappears for five seconds, so for that window nothing can end your run and you can fire as fast as you like. Blue balls work the other way — they only turn up once the ring is spinning dangerously fast, and hitting one winds the rotation speed back down to something survivable.

Is GapTap free?

Yes, free to download and free to play, supported by a banner ad. If a run ends earlier than you would like, you can watch an optional rewarded ad to continue from where you were — but nothing in the game is locked behind it.

Does it work on iPad?

Yes. GapTap runs on both iPhone and iPad, and needs iOS 15.6 or later — so it still works on quite a few older devices.

Can you find the perfect gap?

Free on the App Store. One tap to learn, considerably more to master.
